Xbox Game Pass Early January: Feast On Valhalla And Resident Evil 2 For Free!

On January 3, Xbox Game Pass unveiled the numerous games that would be available in the first half of January, including Close to the Sun and confirming Hell Let Loose on January 4. Xbox Game Pass customers can download and claim the game on PC, Cloud, and Xbox Series X/S starting today.

Although more are on the way, Hell Let Loose is a huge addition to Xbox Game Pass. It may lack the brand name of Call of Duty, but it is a fantastic World War II game with much for history buffs, FPS lovers, and so on to enjoy. There has never been a better moment to play it if you haven’t already.

Hell Let Loose is a realistic warfare-focused FPS and simulation strategy game. Players can engage in numerous game modes such as Offensive and Warfare, play on maps such as Omaha Beach, and master one of several roles that substantially modify gameplay from Medic to Commander.

The strategy comes into play in the latter Hell Let Loose role, which requires the player to coordinate, issue commands, and otherwise lead the team to victory utilizing a tactical map and a handful of powers. Players can also handle WW2 tanks and other vehicles, which are as terrifying as a tank should be. Overall, it’s difficult to express everything that goes into Hell Let Loose, and it’s something that should be experienced rather than explained.

Xbox Game Pass Early January Confirmed

    • Hell Let Loose – January 4
    • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – January 9
    • Figment – January 9
    • Super Mega Baseball 4 – January 11 (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate via EA Play)
    • We Happy Few – January 11
    • Resident Evil 2 – January 16
    • Those Who Remain – January 16
    • Turnip Boy Robs a Bank – January 18
    • Go Mecha Ball – January 25

Of course, military shooters aren’t for everyone, and Xbox Game Pass isn’t in the business of being a one-trick pony.

On January 9, players can receive a vast open-world RPG in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla a surreal action-adventure game in Figment, an over-the-top sports game in Super Mega Baseball 4, or a BioShock-like experience in We Happy Few, or two different styles of horror games. Aside from that, there are still games like Turnip Boy Robs a Bank and Go Mecha Ball coming to Xbox Game Pass, and more will undoubtedly be added later this month.

    • Eternal Shroud: Eternal Shroud is a new item that can be built from Hood of Defiance and Soul Booster. It grants the user magic resistance, health, mana, and health and mana regeneration. It also has an active ability called Eternal Endurance, which creates a barrier that absorbs incoming spell damage and converts it into mana.
    • Mage Slayer: Mage Slayer is a new item that can be built from Javelin and Cloak. It grants the user damage, attack speed, and magic resistance. It also has a passive ability called Mage Slayer, which reduces the spell damage of the enemy hit by the user’s attacks for a short duration.
    • Meteor Hammer: Meteor Hammer is an item that has been buffed and now costs less and has a shorter channeling time. It grants the user strength, intelligence, health and mana regeneration, and damage. It also has an active ability called Meteor Hammer, which summons a meteor that stuns and damages enemies in an area after a delay.

  • Marvel Snap Leaked Patch Notes: Loki Gets Tricked, Miss Marvel Shines Brighter!

Marvel Snap Leaked Patch Notes: Loki Gets Tricked, Miss Marvel Shines Brighter!

According to an early page that was posted before being removed, Marvel Snap’s future patch that will bring back Series Drops will also bring around other meta changes.

However, before the designers erased it, other gamers captured and saved the notes, providing a sneak peek at some of the larger changes that may be coming to the game shortly. And they are significant.

    Marvel Snap Leaked Patch Notes
    Marvel Snap Leaked Patch Notes

The patch notes, which are certainly subject to change before they are released in a game update next week, include some seismic alterations in the meta, including several extremely powerful cards that have been wreaking havoc on the ladder.

For several months, Loki has been a powerful card and meta-offender. Loki’s power is being increased to six, but his wording is changed to prevent him from adding power to Collector. The God of Mischief will now “Transform” the cards in the player’s hand rather than “Replace” them.

Annihilus is the third card to be heavily nerfed. The troll card, which pushes cards with zero or lower power to switch sides or destroy them if they can’t, will soon only force cards with zero or lower power, severely reducing its “junk” deck potential.

Changes to Angel, Dracula, Quake, Kingpin, and America Chavez are also mentioned in the leaked notes. If these improvements make it into the live game, Marvel Snap’s gameplay and feel may change dramatically in the next weeks. Ms. Marvel is next, who will now only buff adjacent locations with plus-five power if they contain “plus-two cards and no repeated costs,” requiring numerous plays and limiting energy to make it more difficult to earn all of her potential power.

Nonetheless, while the game looks significantly better than in its original form, it is not at all like Skyrim, so don’t go installing this mod expecting flawless, modern graphics.

  • Meta Quest 2 VR Headset Gets a Permanent Price Reduction

Meta Quest 2 VR Headset Gets a Permanent Price Reduction

According to a recent announcement from Meta, the Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset has just experienced a permanent price reduction in response to the release of the Meta Quest 3. The discount on both Meta Quest 2 models is $50. The price of the 256GB variant is now $299 (was $349), while the 128GB option is now $249 (was $299).

Although the price reductions take effect right away, this is not the first time the VR headset has been offered at this lower cost. The Quest 2 headset was reduced by $50 during the most recent Black Friday promotions, but these discounts will apply to the headset all year long.

Meta has also confirmed the price reductions for a variety of official Quest 2 accessories. Among them are the Quest 2 Elite Strap, which is currently retailing for $49 (it was previously $59), and the Elite Strap with battery, which is now priced at $89 (it was previously $119).

    Meta Quest 2 Price Reduction
In order to maximize your headset experience, we’re also cutting the cost of Quest 2 accessories.

Meanwhile, the Active Pack is now $59 (was $69), the Fit Pack is $39 (was $49), and the Quest 2 Carry Case is now $45 (was $59). Amazon and Best Buy are just two of the retailers that will carry these higher rates.

The headset’s price reduction was announced almost a year after Meta raised the cost of both storage versions by $100, over two years after the device’s initial debut in 2020. Later on, the 256GB Quest 2 model was reduced in price to $429.99.

    Tyriel shared a Tweet…

The Quest 3, which Meta intends to deliver this autumn for $499.99, was revealed on the same day as the price reduction. It also has a scheduled gaming presentation later today, with the promise of “new game announcements, gameplay first-looks, updates to existing games, and more.”

When the Quest 3 is released later in the year, Meta says it will still be offering the Quest 2 in addition to the professional-focused Quest Pro. According to the press announcement, “Quest 2 remains our most affordable entry point to VR and Pro is optimized for work use cases, with face and eye tracking for more authentic self-expression in meetings.”

Meta claims that a future software update will boost the Quest 2 and Quest Pro’s CPU performance by up to 26%. Additionally, the upgrade will result in a 19% increase in Quest 2 and an 11% increase in Quest Pro GPU performance.

Users will experience “smoother gameplay, a more responsive UI, and richer content on both headsets,” according to Meta. However, developers will need to adjust their programs to take full advantage of the enhancements.

Both pieces of hardware will also support Dynamic Resolution Scaling, which will let “so games and apps can take advantage of increased pixel density without dropping frames” when the GPU is not being used to its full potential.

  • Baldur Gate 3 Clip Ban: Steamy Scenes Spark Xbox Inferno

Baldur Gate 3 Clip Ban: Steamy Scenes Spark Xbox Inferno

Larian Studios has replied to reports that Baldur’s Gate 3 gamers were banned after recording gameplay on the Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, it is far from the only issue impeding the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox experience, with some save files mysteriously erased from existence since launch.

An Xbox gamer recently received an unexpected one-year ban after recording three sexually explicit snippets from Baldur’s Gate 3. By default, captured video/screenshots on Xbox are posted to Microsoft servers, which means that anyone unaware of the terms of service or the automated uploads is in for a rude awakening.

As players go through their campaigns and their ties with their friends get stronger, the possibility of mature content increases. As a result, an increasing number of Xbox gamers have found themselves unable to load any game that requires an online connection.

The Xbox Baldur’s Gate saga continues. From the Xbox Series S version arriving later than the PlayStation 5 version due to development delays, to the game save bug that only appears to impact Xbox and can lead gamers to lose their entire save file. Another issue appears to be impacting solely Xbox gamers who want to play Baldur’s Gate 3, the 2023 Game of the Year.

Reddit user Daddy-Vegas warned Xbox users not to film game videos on the r/BaldursGate3 subreddit. The graphic in the post depicted repeated bans for game clips, culminating in a one-year suspension of the user’s Xbox account. The clips, according to the user, were of “naked camp time fun.”

XBox Users: DO NOT RECORD GAME CLIPS
    byu/Daddy-Vegas inBaldursGate3

Larian’s head of publishing, Michael Douse, stated on Twitter that the studio had received instances of Xbox players being banned owing to TOS violations due to their “gameplay content.”

He then confirmed that Larian is in contact with Microsoft about the matter, and closed with a very accurate description of the situation as “annoying and uncool.” Although no resolution date was given, Douse later pointed out that mature content in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be toggled in the settings menu.

Given the game’s prevalence of mature content, it may spare Microsoft from a flood of ban appeals to loosen the restrictions for Baldur’s Gate 3. According to Larian’s statistics, many people merely want to have some fun with Shadowheart, mind flayers, and devils.

Indeed, the community has become so infatuated with varied partners and how forward they can be that an S*x playthrough has become a highly competitive speedrun category.

However, unless additional developments indicate otherwise, it is safe to presume that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be an exemption to Microsoft’s policy regarding sexually explicit content.

Fortunately, Xbox users may disable automatic uploads of videos and images, but they must use a USB to move them elsewhere. Furthermore, Larian has acknowledged that it is still investigating the Xbox save difficulties, which have persisted despite several attempts to resolve them. Baldur’s Gate 3 players may want to check into a potential solution until the issue is remedied once and for all.

  • Counter Strike 2 Update For 4 January 2024: Major Engine Overhaul And Enhanced Gameplay Features!

Counter Strike 2 Update For 4 January 2024: Major Engine Overhaul And Enhanced Gameplay Features!

One might easily argue that Counter-Strike 2 is not an upgrade to Counter-Strike Global Offensive, but rather a whole new game. It has overhauled practically every aspect of CS: GO with a new engine, updated maps, huge adjustments to smoke grenades, and finally a real in-game ranked system.

However, if this had been released as a new game rather than replacing the decade-old version, there’s a strong probability the player base would have been split more evenly between the two.

The majority of the new features in Counter-Strike 2 have been warmly appreciated. The most noticeable change is the new physics of smoke grenades, which now bloom to fill a space and can be impacted by bullets and other grenades. Launching a HE frag grenade into smoke will burst a hole in it, allowing you to see.

While firing rounds through the fog to gain vision isn’t beneficial, employing a HE to create a gap in the smoke has become the standard approach that everyone employs.

It has also altered the flow of a round because smoke is no longer a safe visual barrier, rendering several strategies and common positions nearly ineffective. This minor modification has enlivened the typical round and changed things enough that it feels like a new game.

Counter Strike 2 Update For 4 January 2024

    [ UI ]

    • Fixed cases where there was a visible delay in loading map images in the Play menu
    • Fixed a bug where items that can’t be equipped were visible in the Loadout menu
    • Fixed a bug where loadout items couldn’t be unequipped
    • Fixed a bug where loadout changes weren’t saved if the game was quit shortly after making changes
    • Fixed a bug where loadout changes on the main menu character were delayed

    [ MISC ]

    • Fixed some visual issues with demo playback
    • Fixed an issue where animations would not play back correctly in a CSTV broadcast
    • Adjusted wear values of some community stickers to better match CS: GO

    [ MAPS ]

    Ancient:

    • Added simplified grenade collisions to corner trims and central pillar on B site

    Anubis:

    • Adjusted clipping at A site steps between Walkway and Heaven

This upgrade is a significant step forward from December 22, 2023, when the only issue was a grenade refund. Valve has been actively responding to user input and applying required modifications since the game’s initial debut on September 27, 2023.

Although this latest update appears tiny, it demonstrates Valve’s continuous dedication to game balance and user experience.

The changes to the maps Ancient and Anubis show a keen interest in competitive play, ensuring that gameplay stays fluid and strategies may grow without technological stumbling blocks. Similarly, the UI upgrades reflect an improvement in quality of life, making the game more accessible and user-friendly.

The Counter-Strike community has been vociferous in their desire for more from Valve, particularly in terms of material and gameplay development. While this release addresses some critical issues, it is only one step in the ongoing evolution of CS2.

More comprehensive upgrades are likely in the future as Valve strives to combine fan expectations with the game’s strategic and technical development.

  • PUBG Mobile Update 3.0 Release Date: New Features And Thrills Await!

PUBG Mobile Update 3.0 Release Date: New Features And Thrills Await!

January 2024 is here, and KRAFTON and Level Infinite are preparing to release the long-awaited PUBG Mobile 3.0 upgrade. For the uninitiated, the 2.9 patch update was launched in November 2023, bringing plenty of features and tweaks to the game, including the winter-themed Frozen Kingdom mode. Surprisingly, engineers have a lot more planned for the 3.0 version release.

For the uninitiated, PUBG Mobile will offer a brand-new themed mode with loads of novel elements including a suspected melee weapon. In addition, Metro Royale is getting a new map, and a weapon is returning to the mode. In PUBG Mobile 3.0, there are numerous optimizations planned for Metro Royale, Classic, and WOW, which fans will be able to experience shortly.

PUBG Mobile Update 3.0 Release Date

According to prior trends, the 3.0 upgrade will arrive two months after the 2.9 release. This is the pattern that Tencent Games has been following for quite some time. As a result, we anticipate the new patch to arrive in mid-to-late January, as the most recent 2.9 update was posted on November 9, 2023.

It should be noted that the studio typically does not provide a precise date for such an update and instead announces it a few days before the actual patch release. We can’t say when the 3.0 upgrade will be available because there hasn’t been an official announcement of a specific release date.

PUBG Mobile Update 3.0 Update Features

The patch will add a slew of new in-game content. Some of the content revealed during the beta test for the 3.0 upgrade is listed below:

    • Enhanced avatar movements: The update will cause enhanced running, climbing, falling, and aiming down-sight movements. This will produce smoother body movements, resulting in a realistic gaming experience.
    • Bolt Action Sniper Rifle improvements: Shots will penetrate vests and bodies, hitting multiple enemies in the bullet’s trajectory. However, the bullet’s second target will receive lesser damage. Moreover, the shots from the Bolt Action SRs will decrease the vests and helmets’ durability.
    • Vehicle Improvements: Except for Medkits and First Aid kits, drivers can use other healers without hindrance.New Map: A new map featuring a snowy terrain will be introduced in the update. It’ll be a ring-shaped map with a military base-cum-fortress at its center.
    • New Mechanics: Fresh mechanics, such as Tactical Alarm items, snowy weather, advanced supply secret rooms, and vertical ziplines, will be introduced.
    • New high-pressure Air Rifle: This new weapon fires steel balls using compressed air. It inflicts higher damage as its chamber pressure rises and has a very low bursting sound.

  • These Four New Games Are Releasing In January, And You’ll Love To Play Them. Check Them Out!

These Four New Games Are Releasing In January, And You’ll Love To Play Them. Check Them Out!

January isn’t traditionally a busy month for new video games, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any worth playing. On the contrary, while January 2024 doesn’t have the most robust release calendar (especially after the yearly holiday barrage), it does feature a few major releases worth watching.

Meaty adventures rule the month, with a new Prince of Persia game and a restored PlayStation 5 edition of The Last of Us Part II, but fighting enthusiasts can still enjoy Tekken 8. Here’s a look at the top game releases in January.

    4. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Jan. 18)

It’s been nearly a decade since the last completely new Prince of Persia game, and Ubisoft is finally resurrecting the iconic adventure franchise with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

The Lost Crown, which will be available on PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, combines the franchise’s original side-scrolling action with the time manipulation aspects seen in more recent 3D titles.

But it also takes influences from Metroid and Castlevania, with a large environment and a slew of skills that you’ll progressively discover over time, enriching the story as you progress.

    3. The Last of Us Part II Remastered (Jan. 19)

The Last of Us Part II was published at the tail end of the PS4 cycle less than four years ago, and it has already received performance improvements on PS5. However, due to the popularity of the HBO show and the remastered version of the original PS3 action game released in 2023, Naughty Dog is releasing a remastered and expanded version of the sequel on PS5.

It also includes some levels that were eliminated during the original development, new character costumes, and a new roguelike survival mode dubbed “No Return.” Fortunately, it’s also less expensive than a regular new PS5 game, which costs $50.

    2. Tekken 8 (Jan. 26)

With Tekken 8, Bandai Namco’s fighting franchise returns to the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for the King of Iron Fist competition. While the feel is mostly recognizable, with many returning faces, Tekken 8 incorporates fighting mechanics that reward more aggressive players, as well as a more cinematic touch to the action.

It can be difficult to reinvigorate a 30-year-old franchise, especially after so many entries and spinoffs, but Tekken 8 appears to have a revitalized spark. Let’s see if it can hold its own against Street Fighter 6.

    1. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Jan. 26)

No, you’re not mistaken: Sega just released The Man Who Erased His Name, another Like a Dragon game, in November. But, in January, the rebranded Yakuza series will expand once more, bringing together both series leads (Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu) for an open-world action event in both Yokohama and Honolulu City, Hawaii—the first time away from Japan.

Unlike the recent spinoff release, it’s advertised as one of the larger, mainline series entries, and a direct sequel to 2020’s Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It’s not the ideal place to start with this series, but existing fans will like it on PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S and One, and PC.

All PS5 and PS4 games Will Be Released In January 2024

2024 appears to be off to a strong start, especially once the first two weeks are over. This is hardly surprising given that February and March are often jam-packed with releases, and that momentum can usually be traced back to the second half of January.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a side-scrolling spin-off that received mixed reviews because it isn’t precisely what everyone expected from Ubisoft’s popular property. In isolation, however, The Lost Crown appears to be a fun action-adventure game.

January 2024 will conclude on a high note, with the simultaneous release of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Tekken 8. The former is a turn-based RPG with a likely long and compelling story, while the latter should be one of the year’s most prominent releases in the combat genre.

Naughty Dog and Sony have revealed that The Last of Us 2 Remastered will be released just a few weeks into the year, with some new features such as a roguelike survival mode.

    • January 5: Shivering Stone (PS5, PS4)
    • January 5: Tools Up! Ultimate Edition (PC, PS4, Switch, XBO)
    • January 10: Ikkarus and the Prince of Sin (PS5, PS4)
    • January 11: Top Racer Collection (PS5, PS4)
    • January 11: War Hospital (PS5)
    • January 16: Toy Trains (PS5)
    • January 18: Bulletstorm VR (PS5)
    • January 18: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS5, PS4)
    • January 19: The Cub (PS5, PS4)
    • January 19: The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered (PS5)
    • January 23: Howl (PS5)
    • January 25: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (PS4)
    • January 25: Devil Inside Us: Roots of Evil (PS5)
    • January 25: MACROSS Shooting Insight (PS5, PS4)
    • January 25: Tenka Touitsu SSB (PS5, PS4)
    • January 25: Touhou Luna Nights (PS5)
    • January 25: Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys: Celes (PS5, PS4)
    • January 26: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (PS5, PS4)
    • January 26: Tekken 8 (PS5)
    • January 29: Granblue Fantasy: Relink (PS5)
    • January 30: Dark Light (PS5)

  • Valorant Episode 8 Release Date: Ascendancy – Climb The Ranks With New Agents And Maps

Valorant Episode 8 Release Date: Ascendancy – Climb The Ranks With New Agents And Maps

Episode 7 of VALORANT introduced us to the beloved agents Deadlock and Gekko, as well as an exciting new Team Deathmatch mode and the international introduction of China into the VALORANT universe.

Recent leaks of alleged in-game content for Episode 8, Act 1 reveal that players may expect just as many entertaining surprises in 2024. There’s a lot to unpack in this impending update, from a mysterious agent to a brand-new gun.

Here’s a look at these intriguing improvements, as well as a rundown of everything we presently know about VALORANT’s Episode 8.

    Valorant Episode 8 Release Date

Episode 8 of VALORANT will premiere on January 10th, 2024 at 7 p.m. ET. The program will begin with Act 1 and progress through several acts, each of which will last several months. Act 2 is expected to air in March and will introduce new characters, including a new agent.

    Valorant Episode 8 Map Rotation

Riot Games stated in 2022 that it intends to run Valorant with a total of seven maps owing to tournaments having best-of-five series during grand finals. A seven-map package would allow each side to prohibit one map without having to repeat picks.

Riot chose to keep a seven-map pool after consulting with the in-house esports team, surveying players, and speaking with professional organizations, and that remains the norm to this day.

The maps in this pool, however, are altered every few months, usually before the start of a new season. The following is the whole map rotation for the forthcoming Valorant Episode 8.

Valorant announced the seven-map pool for the forthcoming season earlier today, on January 2nd, 2024.

    • Icebox
    • Lotus
    • Sunset
    • Breeze
    • Ascent
    • Bind
    • Split

Haven is the map that has been removed from the current map pool. The initial three-site map in Valorant has been replaced by Icebox, which was removed from active map rotation in April 2023 and will return after nine months.

However, the map will not be the same because it will undergo certain alterations during its time away from the server.

Icebox will not be the only terrain to change its return in Valorant Episode 8. Lotus, another three-site map, will be tweaked before continuing as part of the seven-map pool.

The specific improvements made to these maps have not been released at this time, but will hopefully be revealed shortly, with only a week till the next major update goes live.

In addition to the somewhat altered map pool and the adjustments coming to the two maps with Valorant Episode 8, the developers revealed that all game modes, except Team Death Match and Custom Games, would now employ the seven-map rotation.

This choice was made to allow players to always play on the most relevant maps.

Unfortunately, the community has had a mixed reaction to this statement, with many believing that other game modes such as Swiftplay, Replication, Spike Rush, and others exist in Valorant for players to simply have fun.

GTA 6 At 60fps Concerns: Gamers Debate Performance Vs. Realism

With Grand Theft Auto 6 rapidly approaching the new year, some fans are concerned about the game potentially operating at 60FPS and have resorted to Reddit to express their concerns.

    Rockstar Games Announces GTA 6
    Rockstar Games Announces GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in 2025, and it is safe to say that fans are ecstatic for what is arguably the most anticipated game of all time. With Rockstar just releasing one official trailer and keeping most information under wraps, rumors and speculation abound, including a recent concern about the game’s performance.

This comes after a Reddit member asked on r/GTA6 if GTA 6 would be released with 60 frames per second on consoles. Can GTA 6 run at 60 frames per second on the PS5, Series X, and, most notably, the Xbox Series S? I believe Series S is holding back the current generation console. Should Rockstar persuade Microsoft not to release it on the Series S?”

With GTA 6 slated to release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (and eventually on PC), gamers are anxious about how the game will perform on the Series S. When compared to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, the console has significantly less power, which has caused current titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3 to encounter troubles due to the Xbox Series S’s restrictions.

Not to mention how powerful GTA 6 is projected to be, so it’s reasonable that Xbox Series S owners are concerned.

“Probably will have a fidelity, and a performance mode at the very least,” one Reddit member predicts. It would be a shame not to have 60 frames per second.”

Another expressed skepticism, saying, “Yes, without a doubt, GTA 6 will support 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.” However, because the Xbox Series S has lower hardware requirements than the other two systems, performance may vary.”

With over a year till release, it remains to be seen how Grand Theft Auto 6 will perform, but with rumors of next-gen consoles already circulating, we may see a completely different outcome.

  • Steam Reveals Its Best Selling And Most Played Games

Steam Reveals Its Best Selling And Most Played Games

Valve has released its annual ‘Best of 2023’ list on Steam, revealing which games dominated PC sales. The titles have not been numerically ranked, but have been classified into four levels based on data collected from January 1 to December 15, 2023: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

The Top 12 category includes both free-to-play multiplayer games and the largest releases, with the best-selling titles being the award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts Legacy. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which was panned by both fans and critics, likewise rose through the ranks thanks to a devoted fanbase eager to play its multiplayer mode.

Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Dota 2, and Destiny 2 all reached the Platinum list, with the latter receiving a new addition, ‘The Final Shape,’ in June of this year. Meanwhile, the Gold tier has some absolute bangers, such as the Resident Evil 4 remake, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Elden Ring, which has sold 20 million copies across all platforms at the time of writing. Its success helped Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, a lesser-known FromSoftware title, rank among the top 24 best-selling games on the platform.

Even FIFA 23 from last year made the cut, which isn’t unexpected given that its follow-up EA Sports FC 24 was released in the middle of the year.

Steam features extra areas for New Releases by Gross Revenue, Most Played, Early Access sales, and more, in addition to an overall Top-Sellers field. Multiplatform games that were poorly regarded appear to be the focus of attention among the most recent releases, with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Payday 3 coming out on top, the latter being chastised for a lack of content.

As expected, multiplayer games had the most players (at least 300,000), but certain single-player titles, such as Goose Goose Duck and Hogwarts Legacy, charted alongside Baldur’s Gate 3, which peaked at over 800,000 concurrent players on Steam.

Given that the game had been in early access for nearly three years, developer Larian Studios only expected 100,000 players. At the time of writing, the massive RPG had over 176,000 continuous players, ranking fourth among the most-played titles on the site.

2023 was also an excellent year for studios to test their games in early access and gather feedback. Dave the Diver, a Mintrocket maritime exploration and fishing game, was a fan favorite, even becoming one of the most played games on the Steam Deck.

While it’s normal to expect less graphically intensive titles like Vampire Survivor and Half-Life to appear, Starfield managed to rise to the top despite its lack of optimization, which caused major stutters in congested locations like New Atlantis and the Wild West-themed Akila.

Beat Saber and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, as well as Half-Life: Alyx, which pits you against the alien Combines, have emerged as virtual reality gaming favorites.

Steam is now running its annual Winter Sale, which offers hefty discounts on new and returning games. It is open until January 5 at 10:30 p.m. IST.
